四、阅读理解。
Zhou Longshan was a teacher who was born in a small village near the Baiyangdian Lake, a major wetland in northern China. Growing up there, he has many beautiful childhood memories about the wetland.
When Zhou Longshan started filming birds 10 years ago at Baiyangdian Lake, he just wanted to record his favourite birds. However, he became a bird-watcher, a volunteer ranger(护林员), and an educator popularizing(宣传) knowledge of birds among students in the following years. For him, sharing bird-protection knowledge with children can make them feel the beauty of their hometown. This can also let them know the importance of birds, and help them develop the habit of protecting birds.
When Zhou was a child, the water in Baiyangdian Lake was clean. He and his friends often caught fish in the lake and drank the lake water when they were thirsty. Between the 1960s and 1980s, however, Baiyangdian Lake got polluted. In the 1990s, the lake nearly dried up because of climate change. The population and kinds of fish and birds reduced.
Then, efforts were made to change the situation of the lake. Since the Xiong'an New Area was built in 2017, Baiyangdian's protection activities have improved greatly. Over time, Zhou's interest in birds continued to grow. In 2021, he was named "a bird-watcher" by the government, responsible for regular patrols(定期巡逻) and popularizing knowledge of birds. In addition to his regular patrols near the lake, he is sometimes invited to local schools to give speeches, telling students knowledge about birds and how to protect them.
