五、阅读理解
Claudia Evart grew up with her elder brother and sister. She was very close to them, and she thought of them as her best friends. Sadly, both of Evart's siblings(兄弟姐妹) died at young ages in different accidents. Her sister, Lisette, was just 19 when she died in a car accident. Evart was 17 at that time. Fourteen years later, Evart's brother, Alan, died after he hit his head in a fall.
"In the past, I always thought that they should and would be there when I needed them. And I often overlooked(忽略) the role they played in my life," she said. "I didn't realize how much they meant to me until I lost them."
In 1995, ten years after Alan's death, Evart was celebrating her own birthday in late March when she felt a strong sense of sadness and loneliness. "I realized that I would never again celebrate my birthday with my siblings. It's a very hard thing to lose my siblings," she said.
To show her love for her siblings and to encourage widespread recognition (认可) of the unusual relationship between siblings, Evart created National Siblings Day. It's on April 10 every year because that is Lisette's birthday. Every April 10, people in the US celebrate National Siblings Day.
Evart said, "I'd like to see people celebrate the day by taking the time to care for their siblings. Whether you're reliving(重温) childhood memories, planning a trip or simply spending valuable(宝贵的) time together, make this day special. Reach out to your siblings, near or far, and let them know how much they mean to you."
