Some musicians, computer scientists and historians started a special team. They planned to use AI (Artificial Intelligence)(人工智能) to finish Beethoven's 10th Symphony.
Beethoven is famous for his nine symphonies(交响乐). A symphony usually has four parts. Before Beethoven died, he began a new symphony—the 10th Symphony. But Beethoven didn't finish it. He just had some ideas about it. All that he left behind were some notes.
First of all, the team turned the notes into a form. Then they trained the AI to understand it. The AI could look for the ways how Beethoven wrote music. For example, how he reused simple melodies(旋律) to create an idea, or how he moved between different parts of the symphony. Finally the AI tried to connect the little musical bits into a symphony.
It took the team over two years to finish the 10th Symphony. A large group of musicians played the music for 40 minutes. They used different instruments such as violins, trumpets, drums and pianos. In early October, 2021, the piece of music was performed for the first time by the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn, Germany.
In the future, people will use AI in many areas, such as making movies, driving cars, writing novels and so on. We should make good use of AI.
