B
We know dogs and chimpanzees (黑猩猩) have facial expressions (面部表情) like us. But in fact horses do, too!
Scientists from the University of Sussex, England, found that horses use 17 facial expressions to communicate. That's 10 fewer than humans. But it is one more than dogs and four more than chimpanzees, National Geographic reported. For example, horses can smile when greeting. A younger horse often does this to an older horse. When they feel fear, surprised or sad, they raise their inner eyebrows. And they open their eyes wide to show alarm (惊恐).
What surprises scientists is that these three expressions are similar to humans'. "Although horses and humans have totally different faces, the similarities between a horse's movements and a human's are striking (引人注目的)," said Jennifer Wathan, the study's lead author.
