The yo-yo is one of the oldest toys in the world.
In the 18th century,a toy looking like today’s yo-yo was very popular in France. All of the rich people there enjoyed playing with the toy. It is possible that someone later brought this toy from France to England. However, no one is sure when the toy appeared in America. What we know is that in 1916 the toy got the name yo-yo in America.
In 1928,Pedro Flores,a young man from the Philippines,opened the first yo-yo factory in California. Flores’ yo-yo soon became very popular. In 1929,Flores opened two more yo-yo factories. He also organized yo-yo competitions. This helped the yo-yo became more and more popular.
In 1932,Flores sold his factories to Donald Duncan. Duncan was a talented trader. He sold yo-yos not only in the USA but also in other countries. When it was becoming popular all over the world,world yo-yo competitions appeared. Today there are still many kinds of yo-yo competitions.
The yo-yo is a toy with a long history and it will certainly bring fun to people in the future.
