五、<原版阅读>阅读理解。
A poor little girl is walking along the street. Her clothes are ragged(破旧的). She has only her mother's big slippers on her bare feet(赤足).
"Matches! Matches! Does anyone want to buy matches?" she cries. But no one notices her. People walk past her in a hurry. They're busy buying Christmas gifts.
Soon it's noon. But the little girl has not sold(卖) any matches.
At this moment, she's beside the window of a beautiful house. She looks into the window. There's a very beautiful Christmas tree. Two kids are playing by the tree with candies. The pieces of candy paper are so beautiful. "How happy they are!" she says to herself.
Then she thinks of her sick mother. Tears come to her eyes.
She keeps on walking and calling, "Matches! Matches! Sir, madam, would you please buy some matches?" Still, nobody notices her.
Suddenly, a carriage(马车) runs by fast. The little girl is scared. She runs away in a hurry.
The little girl finally gets away from the carriage. But she loses(失去) her slippers. One is gone. The other is gotten by a boy. He's kicking it around. The little girl wants to ask for it back. But the boy kicks it far away.
The poor little girl is barefoot now. She walks on in the snow.
