Ⅴ.阅读理解
思维品质创新思维 A team of students in the Netherlands has designed and built a car that's completely powered by the sun. The car, called Stella Terra,is the first solar-powered(太阳能的)car that can travel off-road(越野)for long distances without needing a charging(充电)station.
The 30 students, aged between 21 and 25,known as Solar Team Eindhoven, took a year off from the university to work on developing the car. In order to create a car that could do well with the kind of difficult driving the team was planning for,the students had to design the whole car, from top to bottom.
On top,of course, were the solar panels. Most solar panels are only fully used about 20%. But the Stella Terra's solar panels can be used 97%. They waste far less sunlight than even the best solar panels you can buy.
Like most electric(电的)cars, the Stella Terra stores energy in a battery. Thanks to its powerful solar panels and its battery, when it's sunny, the car can run for 710 kilometres a day.
On the bottom, the team designed a suspension system(悬挂系统)to help the car do with the bumps(碰撞)and heavy shaking when driving somewhere not smooth.
The team took the car on its biggest test in October—a 1,000-kilometre test drive across Morocco. The car had to travel through forests, dry riverbeds,as well as across desert(沙漠)sand and mountain trails. The car all made it—and without ever stopping at a charging station.
The car's steering(转向)system had a problem once. But since the students had designed the whole car,it didn't take them long to repair the steering.
The team is very proud of their car,but they won't be sad if car companies start to copy their ideas. In fact, they hope that the Stella Terra will help give car companies more ideas to work on similar projects. But the students think it will take five to ten years before car companies are able to build a similar car.
1. What's TRUE about the car?
A. Its solar panels are the best in the world.
B. It won't have any bumps or heavy shaking.
C. It can run for 710 km a day when it's rainy.
D. Its top and bottom were designed by 30 students.
2. What does Paragraph 6 mainly tell us?
A. The car did well on its biggest test.
B. The team will have a test in forests.
C. The geography condition in Morocco.
D. The car ran across Morocco in October.
3. Why does the writer mention the problem in steering system in Paragraph 7?
A. To show there may be safety problems.
B. To show the students worked harder.
C. To show that repairing a car is not difficult.
D. To show the process(过程)of developing isn't smooth.
$4. From the passage we can see these students _.$
A. look down on car companies
B. want to push car development
C. will be sad if their ideas are copied
D. need ten years to build a similar car
