[2024 张家口桥西区期中改编] One of the most surprising trees in the world is known as the baobab. This kind of tree mainly grows in South Africa and Australia.
Sometimes, it is hard to tell what the name of a tree is because they look like each other. But this is not a problem with the baobab. Its appearance is quite different, so people can't mistake it for another tree. The baobab is very wide, and people often enjoy the shade under it. One Australian baobab was so large that people were able to turn part of the tree into a small room. The tree itself was so strong and wide that it could hold a large group of people. The strongest tree in the world is over 1,835 years old now.
People also call it the "giving tree". The tree's fruits are delicious and they are a tasty treat in many African countries. The fruits are also very healthy and people make porridge and soft drinks from the fruits. Since the tree grows in dry environments, it has to store water. The tree soaks (浸泡) in water when it is wet. During dry seasons, the baobab tree can use the stored water. Some baobabs can store thousands of gallons(加仑) of water and people can get the water from the trees when they need it.
Sadly, in recent years, the baobab trees are dying because of climate change. Scientists are trying hard to take action to save them.
