One of the most surprising trees in the world is the baobab. This kind of tree mainly grows in Africa and Australia.
Sometimes, it is hard to tell trees apart because they look like each other. But this is not a problem for the baobab. Its appearance is quite different, so people can't mistake it for another tree. The baobab is very wide, and people often enjoy the shade of it. In Western Australia, there is a large baobab known as the Boab Prison Tree. In the past, it was so strong and wide that it could hold a large group of people. The baobab can live for more than 1 000 years.
People also call the baobab the “tree of life”. Its fruits are very delicious treats in many African countries. The fruits are also very healthy and people use them to make porridge and soft drinks. What's more, it can also provide water for people. In order to adapt to dry climates, it absorbs(吸收) a lot of water and stores it in its body when the rainy season comes. Some baobabs can store up to 100 000 litres(升).
But in recent years, many baobabs are dying because of climate change. Scientists are trying hard to take action to save the special species. (E8202003)
