A wealthy man once asked an old wise man to help his son get rid of his bad habits. The old man asked the youth to take a walk with him in a garden. Stopping suddenly, he asked the youth to pull out a small plant growing there.
The youth held the plant between his thumb and forefinger(食指) and pulled it out. The old man then asked him to pull out a slightly bigger plant. The youth pulled hard and the plant came out, roots and all. “Now pull out that one,” said the old man, pointing to a bush(灌木). The youth had to use all his strength(力气) to pull it out.
“Now take this one out,” said the old man, pointing to a bigger tree. The youth grasped(抓紧) the trunk and tried to pull it out. But it did not move. “It’s impossible,” said the youth, out of breath with the effort.

1. Where did the old man ask the youth to take a walk? ______________________
2. What did the youth pull out? ______________________
What can you learn from the story? ______________________
答案:
2. A 解析 由短文中“... pointing to a bush. The youth had to use all his strength to pull it out.”
4. D
In a garden. 2. A small plant, a slightly bigger plant and a bush. 3. We should get rid of our bad habits early.(答案不唯一)
